This is a presentation that I gave at the first edition of FOSDEMx, at the University of Brussels on May, 3rd 2018.

It is a collection of tips and heads-up on what I wish I knew when I was still a student myself, before I started working in IT.

For many years, I have witnessed cynism and unkindness in many occasions. People in this field are often more comfortable with machines than they are with people, and maybe it led them to forget somehow that we still are humans.
